The Rancho Planter

How the Rancho Planter was born... In June of 2019 Angela had the opportunity to take a workshop taught by Artist Simon Levin. He challenged his students to think about each part of the pot and how to make the pot share what the artist is trying to convey. Shape, size, alterations, color, marks, and other factors all play a part to the feeling each pot gives the beholder. This was the spark that Angela needed to bring more meaning into her ceramic work. Upon returning to the studio, she began playing with shapes and meaning; this planter was born with a purpose to brighten one’s day. After making a few planters Angela went to visit new shop owner Katherine Raz at The Fernseed in Tacoma, Washington. Knowing that Katherine procures her shop with small businesses and makers, Angela had hope that Katherine may be interested in these planters. They discussed some options and an order was placed. This is when Angela was asked if there is a name for the planter. A happy place for Artist Angela is Rancho Penesquitos in San Diego, Ca where her aunt resides. It is always a wonderful bright time in Southern California where she grew up. Keeping with the theme The Rancho Planter is named. While maintaining this wholesale account with The Fernseed an amazing opportunity came about. Not only was The Fernseed growing, opening a second location and selling all their product so well a connection was born. Katherine linked Angela of Light AND Clay Ceramics with Veronica of LBE Designs. Katherine had already been selling many of LBE Design planters in her shop and Veronica expressed her interests in doing an artisan series. Through this connection Angela began communicating with Jon and Veronica at LBE Designs who went all in. Over the next year or so Jon and Veronica took on a huge project that moved them to Mexico with a search for the perfect crew. They met Julio through more connections and began the journey of building a studio. Julio is a Mexico local master ceramicist and a kiln builder which made him the perfect man for the job. Providing opportunity for the locals in the area they created a crew who is now producing The Rancho Planter which includes a watering dish! Through praising Yahweh daily great things happen! None of this was by chance and Angela is grateful to each person who has been involved in this amazing opportunity. Thank you for reading and supporting the many people involved!
